Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation living in Atlanta from her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in the theatre at a young age. As a student in Emory University he appeared in numerous productions on and off the campus. While stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he was inducted into the air force in the year 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was in that production as well. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their first son, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. In 1957 the couple left the air force and Walter enrolled in Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter joined Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio when they moved their family from Atlanta to Decatur, Georgia in 1960. Walter and Betty Lou produced a Saturday matinee local TV show for children called Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964, a project they self-financed. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for six years. They welcomed in 1965 two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
